From the late Paleo-Indian period and continue in the Early Archaic period, the stone projectile point, usually known as the point of Dalton, served as a hunting weapon more than almost any other style.

This long-term technology was used by a vast region from the Southeast and Florida to the middle eastern Kentucky and Tennessee and Ohio, in the South and in much of Texas and northward into the Great Plains.

A similar, possibly related to style, was used during the same period in the Great Basin, west of the Rocky Mountains in the Desert Southwest, California and the Pacific Northwest. It is called Humboldt point.

Dalton points are common throughout Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, etc. The distinctive design divide the base of spear points, spear points and arrowheads and is widely recognizable immediately.

This design, probably more than any also replaces previous technologies fluted points, and it worked! And because the old craftsmen did not have to deal with many fractures, as the regularity occurred during the process of corrugated point of manufacture. This change saves a lot of effort, time and material, all of which might be a better use being discarded as Clovis, Cumberland, or Folsom points "broken during manufacture."

A single phase system has emerged Dalton points. Since the points were used and became bored, the impacts of hunting or edge wear on duty as knife blades, the owner would have to sharpen.

The renewal effort is usually carried out while the point was fastened on the handle or shaft. As a result, the base point did not exhibit most redevelopment efforts. But the road was undoubtedly the effect of being sharpened again.

I have a screen that displays 8 different parts of former Dalton. It is organized around a blank quartz Dalton, which measures 3-1/2 "long by 1-1/8" wide. He has returned to sharpen a couple of times, and shows the typical sharpen one side of flake removals along each edge of the blade, giving a visible beveled edge along the left side of the road. The other 7 points are similar or slightly smaller in width at the base, but they are significantly shorter, mostly under 2 "long.

All of them have been sharpened many times. Indeed, they have been "recycled" many times that there is almost nothing left of them except the base, with just a little short triangular blade remaining. They have reached the end of its usefulness, so much so that even dressing would take more effort than worth it. Subsequently, the user was Dalton of these tools, blades and projectile points discarded without further reflection.

Therefore, "post-consumer Dalton."
