I need to replace my medicine bag. It has a hole worn in it. Is there a ritual?

I have been following a few Native American customs, one of which is wearing a medicine bag. I noticed today, that there is a hole worn on the back of the bag. I am fearful the contents may fall out. I am not educated as to the way to replace it. Is it as simple as making a new bag and smudging it, then transferring the contents? What about the old bag? I want to be sure and do it properly, with the respect to the Native American practice. Any advice would be appreciated.

I myself have carried a medicine bag for about 24yrs give or take. When it got worn out, i simply placed the entire bag into another outer bag. This was the advice given to me by Iron Eagle Ragland of the Hopi nation. In most native beliefs the bag is consecrated as well as the contents. It is much simpler to keep the original bag within the new, along with the original contents. That way the new bag is simply giving physical support to the one that counts. When the new outer bag wears out, you can just replace it, still keeping your medicine intact. Hope this helps.
