Vintage China
The value of an antique / Set China vintage? Are there any books that sets the list and worth?

I have a collection of Mikasa, but only can find sites that sell replacement parts. I can not find information on full sets. What is most valuable selling piece by piece or as a set complete?

The books are not your best source, set the prices change too quickly. Check eBay - search by manufacturer and brand, must be able to refine your search to exact pattern. You'll have to check every few days until someone lists what you have. You piece may be able to search by completed listings too. Per vs whole depends on what establishes the "full" is. For most people today, coffee cups and saucers are a liability at the acquisition porcelain. You will get more $ for plates, bowls and small plates. They almost have to pay people to drink or soup plates or bowls of low (they sell by the glass in Instead of cereal!).

I love the thrill of the hunt for antiques for me and my stores. However, the work can be dirty. Find articles pristine midcentury for example, may mean digging into the back of kitchen cupboards for sales of goods of the pieces of the wedding list of quality dishes or glassware treasure that has been carefully stored, seldom used, is often forgotten ...

Spotting a gem through decades of grime from the kitchen is only the first step. The next challenge is the cleaning. How to remove the best year of accumulated grease and dust without ruining your prize?

Of course, the first for would start warm water and mild detergent. But beware! Make sure that China is at room temperature first - do not bring it directly from a cold car in winter and a thud in hot water. Vintage China can be very susceptible to extremes of heat and cold, and this treatment may cause it to crack, chip or madness.

Before starting, check the label on your laundry detergent to make sure it does not contain chlorine or lime, both of which may be too strong for the old China.

Hard surfaces Fill your sink area to prevent accidental bumps. Dip each piece separately and rub gently with a soft cloth. I would not use a platform wash or brush as this may cause scratches or worse. Rinse with warm water and dry air.

Often, a gentle wash is all that is needed. However, there are times when even the hot water and soap can do nothing against fat monster.

I've seen a product called Spray 9 recommended, but this is a professional product and you can buy at your local store. If you have a lot of China to clean worth a try. There exist many other products, such as Formula 409, which are also known to work against grease and grime, but not recommended for food preparation surfaces, which makes me doubt to use them.

So far, the best product I've found for cleaning vintage China is our old assistant title = "Bar Keepers Friend "> Bar Keepers Friend. I first saw this recommended title =" Pyrex Love "> Love to clean Pyrex Pyrex dishes (which has shown be very useful for removing metal marks!) and decided to try some dirty dishes in particular. You can clearly see the results in the photo below.

Bar Keepers Friend is nontoxic and safe to use objects and areas in contact with food, and that's why I feel more confident to recommend it. You should be able to find in your local supermarket or shop DIY, if not available online. The result can be spectacular, but as always, use common sense and do not use in areas where there is gold or decoration on enamel.

So, you clean your topic and may now find that there are cracks present. The worst type of cracking comes with brown spots in and around him, and this can completely ruin the look of a piece. As a trader, usually do not sell anything with this type of damage, except on rare occasions when I feel it adds more character. One thing I am definitely not comfortable with cleaning the stain before sale. However, this is a very common practice and there is a technique it works very well. You can test if you have stains difficult to remove from your own pieces.

To remove stains cracks must obtain peroxide a beauty shop, and cut with water to 1 part water 2 parts peroxide (note, these instructions are for peroxide - Do not use bleach! In addition, sure to wear gloves and appropriate eye protection!). Immerse the item in the solution in a tupperware or glass bowl, cover with a lid or Saran wrap, and go. It may take up to a week for brown marks to disappear. Do not use this method where there is cold enamel, gold (gold) or other decoration on enamel.

So there you have it, a step by step guide to cleaning your antique tableware found. Now that you've achieved the desired result, please remember to take care of their special items. Rinse stored China every few months under the hot water to remove accumulated dirt, and never again have to submit to the deep cleaning procedures I have described.
